چکیده
Understanding the behavior of ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTCs) against oxidation is particular importance in high-temperature applications. In this study, ZrB2–SiC–HfB2 UHTC composites were fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) method at different temperatures, times, and pressures to investigate effects process variables on their resistance. Before tests, as-sintered samples contained ZrB2 SiC phases with (Zr,Hf)B2 solid solution. The subjected oxidative conditions 1400 °C relative mass changes measured as a function time up 20 hours. FESEM EDS equipment used for microstructural elemental analyzes cross-sections oxide layers. Due oxygen diffusion, ZrO2 SiO2 appeared alongside (Zr, Hf)O2 surface After identifying several oxides SiC-depleted layers oxidation-affected zone, schematic model arrangement such was proposed.

متن کاملMicrostructure and mechanical properties of pressureless sintered alumina-silver composites
The silver toughened alumina ceramics, which were fabricated via a conventional ceramic processing route using commercially available alumina and silver oxide powders as the starting materials, exhibit a higher fracture toughness (6 to 9 MPamo.5) than the monolithic alumina ceramic ( 2.5 to 3.0 MPamo.5). The weak interfacial bonding between the silver inclusions and the alumina matrix is charac...

Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) (HAp) is a very attractive material for human tissue implantation, beacuse it makes up ~69% of the weight of bone [1]. Unfortunately HAp posses low mechanical properties (strength, fracture toughness), which is a barrier to its applications in load-bearing situations [2]. The mechanical properties of HAp composites, is based on the synthesis of composites and th...
متن کاملSintered Steel Composites Reinforced with Ceramic Nanoparticles: Fabrication, Characteristics and Wear Behavior
Steel composites reinforced with alumina nanoparticles were prepared by powder metallurgy process. Samples containing two different amounts of carbon (0.35 and 0.55 wt.%) and 0-5 wt.% Al2O3 nanoparticles were fabricated by mixing, compacting and sintering of diffusion bonded Distaloy AE powder. The density, hardness and wear tests were performed on the prepared samples. Fu...
